The purpose of this course is to examine the history of the Modern Church from the end of the 17th century to the present. Particular emphasis will be given to the Protestant Church in North America and the history of American Presbyterianism. The course will also include components covering the history of missions and the rise of global Christianity.
Topics covered include Colonial North American Puritanism, the First and Second Great Awakenings, the history of American Presbyterianism, Old Princeton Theology, the Enlightenment and German Liberal Theology, the modern missionary movement, Fundamentalism, Evangelicalism, global Christianity, and the post-modern church.
Dr. Jeff Jue is the Provost and Executive Vice President at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He is the Associate Professor of Church History and the Stephen Tong Associate Professor of Reformed Theology. He received his BA degree from University of California, Irvine (1994); M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary, California (1998); Graduate Studies from University of Geneva (1999); Graduate Studies from The Folger Institute (2000); and Ph.D. from University of Aberdeen (2003).
